What should your Facebook page header look like?

Here are 3 ideas for the header of your Facebook page:

This is valuable real estate! Everyone who visits your page sees this first. What kind of impression do you want to make?

Here are 3 ideas in order of least to most effort:

1) A candid photo of your community

I've said it once, I'll say it again: You cannot go wrong with happy, smiling faces! Ideally, this is candid, not posed.

2) Your logo with text

Another option is your logo with some simple text underneath. The background can be a solid color, a texture, or an image (just make sure to have strong contrast against the background).

The text can be your mission statement, your location, service time(s), and/or your website url.

Make sure the logo/text combo doesn't take up too much real estate. Leave a generous border (see template below). Otherwise, it may be the victim of an unfortunate crop on some mobile screens.

3) Rotate it seasonally

Make your header a simple promotion for your next big thing. For churches, this could be Advent/Lent worship times. For schools, this could be enrollment or graduation dates.

When I say simple, I mean it! Don't info dump in this space. This isn't a replacement for your other promotional strategies, but a simple way to contribute to the Magic of 7 (and demonstrate that you're on top of things).

Things your header should not be:

  • Outdated! Specifically regarding #3: unless you have the bandwidth to keep up with a rotating header graphic, choose one of the other options. Even if you are confident you can keep it updated, be sure to set a reminder to change it on time.
  • A stock or AI-generated image
  • An 8.5"x11" flyer that's been cropped and re-uploaded

Here's a Canva file that's cropped to the correct dimensions for a Facebook Header (as of October 2024).

Play around a bit!

I was writing a presentation recently and realized something huge... You're not ready for this 👀 As a business account, your follower reach is between 1.5% and 3%. Translation: If your business has 1000 social media followers, 22 of them will see your post. As a personal account, your reach is between 20% and 50%. Think about times when you've posted an Instagram story and scrolled through the number of people who viewed it... Translation: If you have 1000 social media followers, 350 of them...

Here's a content idea for your weekly newsletter: Here's a little extra content for you to plug into the next few weeks of regular communication to your people. Maybe you can add it to a portion of your newsletter or send out a quick mass text for the next few weeks. This content shows people five ways to use your online presence to amplify their word-of-mouth outreach. This is education for your insiders, not your prospects—so make sure you properly filter any communications you send. Pay...

When it comes to social media, I simply cannot live without these tools: 1) Texture or background graphics Pick something that represents your brand or series theme. Odds are, you can find a large collection of graphics for <$15 total that will totally level up your design game. I added a folded paper texture on top of this simple quote graphic. Here are a couple to get your gears turning: Tree rings, folded paper, stone, mountains/landscapes, vintage paper; or use your own search terms here....
